Qaqortoq Greenland Fire
Department
Other fire
departments we have visited.
When we visited Qaqortoq we found the
fire department with this rapid response vehicle parked in front.

This
one is for the Operation Manager, probably what we would call the
Incident commander.

According to
Google the emblem at the rear says."Firefighters and Rescuers".across
the top and "Municipality of Kualleq" at the bottom.
On the fire symbol
Maltese Cross is 2010 and the names of three nearby towns.
Later we found the
department patch inside.

The radio antennas
on the roof for dispatching the volunteers.

We knocked at the door but no one answered.
It wasn't locked so we opened it and called out and looked around in
case there was someone inside that hadn't heard us.
We looked around but didn't find anyone.
We
did find this guy.
The sign says
"No large fire suits fire boots - gloves - helmets inside
this room
Qaqortoq
Fire Brigade"

And patches from
fire departments all over the world.

These nozzles and
plaques graced a wall.
The only text we
could make out was the date 1950 on one of them.
Much of the rest
seemed to be a list of names, possibly members over the years.
We wondered where
they got the wood for the plaques since there are very few trees on
Greenland.and I would be surprised if any got this big.

Here are two of
their capable looking trucks were in the bays ready to go.

Also an inflatable
boat if water rescues were needed.

Turnout gear for
each firefighter was ready as well.

Hose loaded into
baskets to make deployment easier.

They had a station
to recharge powder fire extinguishers.
Our department has
to take ours about 50 miles away to be refilled.

The storage room
had a pump and generator.

Extinguishers,
spill kit, stretchers, ladders, exercise equipment, suction hoses and
so much more.

And before we left we saw this sign.
It says Emergency exit.
