We were a little concerned when we saw this ambulance just outside our hotel in San Jose. Was there a medical emergency with one of the guests? Maybe someone in our group?
It was there for nearly an hour so that seemed less and less likely. What was going on?
While I was taking pictures and puzzling on the situation these two firefighter/paramedics came out so I asked.
They had been conducting a routine inspection to ensure that all the
fire alarm systems, extinguisher systems in the kitchen/laundry,
etc. were in good working order.
They also told me about their typical work load (mostly inspections and medical, though some fires and rarely rescues).
They were surprised to learn that I was a volunteer firefighter and that Nancy was Chief of our department.
We had a good chat like those with every other firefighter that we have met on our travels.
When we visited the post office we noticed this emergency response equipment readily available. It was a backboard and head restraint to be used if someone was involved in an accident nearby.
