On our way back from the Black Forest we passed through Freiburg on our way to Colmar.
Here are a few pictures of this old city.

North Tower of the Schwabentor Bridge, Schwabentorbrucke

St. John church

Schwabentor (Swabian gate)
There has been a city gate here since the 1300's.

Across the Rhine to Colmar
The dam and locks along the Rhine are needed to ensure the river is deep enough for commercial boats.

And now we are in

Théatre municipal and the Musée d'Unterlindee

Random picturesque streets.

An interesting balcony or apartment addition..

Open air cafe and flower shop.

Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi who created the Statue of Liberty was a native of Colmar and this is The Little Winemaker, one of his statues celebrating him there.

On our travels we often see wedding parties and have even been invited to help a soon to be groom celebrate at his bachelor's party/stag night.
I don't think we have ever noticed a bachelorette party/hen's night but that is what this seems to be.

Farmers market in the town square

Fontaine Roesselmann (Roesselmann Fountain) another statue by Bartholdi.
It was taken away by the Germans in 1943 but was restored and reinstalled in 1945

Cercle Saint-Martin

Can you guess who created this statue?
Nope, it is of Auguste Bartholdi not by him.
It was created by the sculptors Hubert Louies-Noel and Antoine Rubin.

The main train station in Colmar

This ornate Carousel was built in1900.
It is Europe’s largest traditional wooden carousel

Unterlinden Museum has art from the middle ages to the present, archaeological exhibits, and a library for research.

A witch's house or wizard's house?
I don't know.  What do you think?
